This 17th century Latin caption reminds me of a quote written by Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke in 1925:
“We are the bees of the invisible. We wildly collect the honey of the visible, to store it in the great golden hive of the invisible”
Rilke was describing the transformation of objects into art, the other the transformation of information into knowledge. Both thinkers were onto something: we humans have a seemingly magical and profound way of transforming the world around us. We are alchemical (“chymick”) and combinatorial by nature, driven by curiosity and intuition.
Seemingly unrelated topics become interconnected.
